Nagpur: Shaken up by a series of revealing reports by Nagpur Today and conclusive evidence provided by drones, the District Administration authorities on Monday raided the ‘Bina-5’ sand ghat and seized a Poclain machine being used for sand mining despite ban and also seized 5-6 trucks being used for transporting sand.
The contract of ‘Bina-5’ sand ghat was bagged by Gopal Chaukse, the youngest brother-in-law of a notorious builder (on papers, Gopal Chaukse’s wife Nikita is Director). The District Administration was receiving a deluge of complaints regarding sand stealing and illegal excavation since past many days. Truck loads of sand was being mined illegally. Subsequently, the authorities had deployed drones for surveillance and it was done for a full month. After gathering conclusive evidence, the contractor was summoned and shown the illegal acts. Finally, the sand ghat was shut down. But the contractor continued the illegal excavation with impunity.

The Kamptee Sub-Divisional Officer on Monday informed that the Kamptee Tehsildar raided the sand ghat and seized a Poclain machine being used for sand mining despite ban and also seized 5-6 trucks being used for transporting sand.
Further investigations are being carried out till the filing of this report.
