Nagpur: It is the irony of fate that the family of Slain Major Prafulla Moharkar of Bhandara got the moment of grief right on the day of his wedding anniversary. The mortal remains of Major Moharkar were flown down to the airport station Sonegaon here, in an AN-32 on Sunday evening. After the plane landed at around 7:50pm, the body was further transported to Pauni town in Bhandara district for the last rites. The day also happens to be his wedding anniversary.
The remains were accompanied by his wife Aboli Moharkar. “Son of a retired schoolteacher, he had joined the army through technical entry scheme after passing class 12 exams. “However, he exercised his option and joined the infantry instead and went into the 2 Sikh Regiment. He had come to our organization to get trained for the services selection board (SSB) interviews,” said ex-Flying Officer Shivalee Deshpande of Prahar, a social organization which motivates youngsters to join the army. Deshpande also confirmed that it was his wedding anniversary on December 24.
Moharkar’s mother was seen in news channels saying she got a chance to meet him for only 15 minutes when he had come down to Nagpur to board a flight. Even she happened to be in the city at that time. “Its time that there is finally peace. How long would families continue to get bereaved, she cried out.
