Narayan Bawankule and Latif Bhai flagrantly excavating sand from river bed

Nagpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is much concerned about interference with rivers and their water-level recession as well as climate change, as he just voiced his concern in Paris Summit the other day, the Nagpur district administration does not seem to be taking the issue seriously.

A large scale excavation of sand is illegally being made at Pardi ghat, unchecked and flagrantly, by the sand-mafia gang under the nose of administration, and thus putting the state government in a heavy financial loss of crores. Even mining, revenue and police departments are also responsible for such illegal sand excavation.

The sand-mafia gang is functioning under a powerful network system and the sand is being flagrantly excavated from river ghats, namely, Khapa, Gosewadi, Walni, Rohana, Beena Sangam and Pardi. There are thieves in the gang of sand-mafia who include persons under political shelter and blessings of their close ones in politics. Narayan Bawankule (claims to be brother of Guardian minister) and Latif Khan are some of the names in the sand-mafia.

The Nagpur Today has always exposed the sand-thieves, but the administration has failed to lay a check on them. The thieves bring Poclain machines and keep excavating the sand of their requirement.

It is difficult to guess under whose protection these sand-thieves have been functioning with dare.

Recently, the Saoner MLA too had raised the the issue of stocking of sand by Beigh Enterprises, close to Pardi Ghat, but he ignored the sand-theft worth crores of rupees in Khapa, Tembhurdoh, Walni, Rohana, Kamptee and Gosewadi ghats.

The sand-mafia gang is said to be in cut-throat competition these days to such an extent that the repetition of gang-war cannot be ruled out.
