Inter-state cricket betting racket busted, 10 arrested

Nagpur: Cops have busted an inter-state cricket betting and money laundering racket on Sunday here in the city. The dirt of betting and fixing in the IPL and other cricket matches has yet again reared its ugly head in city”s Hira Nagar area.

Cops have arrested 10 bookies and are interrogating them to get into the depth of the inter-state betting racket where crores of money invested by high profile businessmen and others. After getting secret information from sources, the Jaripatka police raided the flat where these persons were running the racket. Cops raided the premises in the afternoon.

According to police, the accused are from Maharashtra and its neighbouring states. The accused locked the front door so that local residents may feel no occupants are there. The flat belongs to Sanjay Kalwani. Police stormed the apartment from a neighbouring salon. Police said that the bookies are in contact with local and other businessmen who are betting for the latest cricket match between India and South Africa.

The accused were identified as Tekchand Kevalramani, Sheikh Qadir, Chetan Malu, Suraj Shukla, Pardesi Telipura, Bajariya, Chetan Bangre, Anil Gujar, Rahul Soni, Shivdayal Aalamlani, Sanjay Kalwani, Bhupesh Jaggi. Police has registered offences under relevant sections of IPC. interrogation is expected to continue to reveal more links in the betting racket.
