Nagpur: An innocent four-year-old boy who was an onlooker was killed in a freak mishap when he was watching a bore-well motor being extricated from the bore-well hole on Naik Road in Mahal area on November 8, 2016.

The deceased boy is identified as Arman Ali Patel. Arman met with the tragic end after a clamp that was used in the chain that was pulling out the motor from the bore-well broke and moved at bullet speed and hit him directly on the chest. The clamp had grievously injured the boy. The tragic incident occurred at a Private Construction site at Naik Road, Mahal right in front of NMC Standing Committee Chairman Bandu Raut’s house.

Arman Patel aged four years was one of the on-lookers who were watching the motor being pulled out of bore-well using a chain and a clamp. Eye-witnesses told that the construction labourers were lifting the motor from the bore-well laterally instead of vertically. In all possibility, a make shift clamp was used to fasten the chain to the motor. The make-shift clamp gave away midway and moved in a bullet’s speed to hit the small boy squarely on his chest.

“The builder had employed a tractor for the work of extricating the motor from the bore-well hole. A long chain was attached to the tractor along with the clamp to lift up the borewell motor.  Unfortunately, during the process, the clamp holding the chain broke down and the clamp was thrown in the air hitting the chest of Patel who was playing nearby,” said an eye-witness who stays at Naik Road.

Arman Ali Patel fell unconscious due to the impact of the clamp on the chest. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital S G Hospital where the doctors refused to even administer first aid since this was a medico-legal case. The parents and relatives then rushed him to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (Mayo Hospital) where the doctors declared him dead after an hour of treatment. The minor’s body has been shifted for post mortem. Kotwali police has registered a case of a accidental death and is investigating further.

The death of the minor has incited the family members, relatives and neigbours to protest against the builder. For quite some time, the area was tense.  Large number of people including some politicians has gathered at Mayo Hospital to protest against the erring builder. The deceased’s relatives claimed that the builder should have taken precautionary measures before venturing this project. He should have ensured that the entire area is vacated.
