Nagpur: Violent clashes inside Nagpur Central Jail continue to raise serious security concerns after two inmates allegedly attacked another prisoner with a sharp weapon made from a tin sheet inside the prison premises. The injured inmate sustained severe wounds and is currently undergoing treatment at Government Medical College and Hospital.
The incident took place inside the Nagpur Central Prison located under the jurisdiction of Dhantoli Police Station.
According to police, the injured inmate, identified as Prit Ajay Borkar, was bathing near a water tank between Barrack No. 4 and 5 on the evening of May 7 when an argument broke out between him and two other inmates, Akshay alias Siddharth Bodule and Kartik Satpute.
The verbal dispute soon escalated into a physical scuffle. A police personnel on duty initially attempted to pacify the situation, but the accused allegedly attacked Borkar using a sharp-edged weapon allegedly fashioned from a tin sheet and kept hidden inside the jail.
The victim suffered serious injuries on his chest, abdomen, shoulder and back. After primary treatment inside the prison, he was shifted to Medical Hospital, where he remains under treatment.
Based on a complaint lodged by police constable Swapnil, Dhantoli Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities are now probing how the sharp weapon was manufactured or smuggled into the highly secured prison premises.
Officials said strict action under prison laws is also being initiated against the accused inmates.
