Nagpur: The inaugural ceremony of induction training for 69th batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers was held at the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) on Monday (January 11). Chairperson of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Arun Kumar Jain was the chief guest on the occasion.
NADT’s Director General (Training) Gunjan Mishra, Additional Director General (Training) R K Chaube, Additional Director General (Training-II) Madanesh Kumar Mishra, Additional Director General Leena Shrivastava and other officials graced the function.
IRS officers undergo induction training of about 16 months before getting posted to field offices. The IRS officers are recruited through civil services examination (CSE) conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

During the 16 months, officer trainees are trained on various aspects of tax administration. The training includes specialized inputs in income tax laws, jurisprudence and training in allied laws, including general and business legislations.

The National Academy of Direct Taxes is the apex training institution of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and the Income Tax Department of the Government of India. Over the years, it has enhanced and embellished national interest by moulding human capital fortunes and functioning as a ‘best-interests’ think-tank in tax policy and administration. The Academy imparts proficiency in core competency areas, disseminates information about the best of academics and practices and provides an international perspective, high quality professional capabilities and cultural sensitivities to officers.
