Nagpur: The captain of Indian Divyang cricket team, Gurudas Raut, a Nagpur lad, is getting married on February 9. A resident of Datta Nagar in city, Gurudas is tying the nuptial knot with Bhagyashri Vijay Kolhe, a native of Surdi village in Amravati district.

The marriage ceremony is likely to be attended by Air Marshal M Baladitya of Maintenance Command, Indian bowler Umesh Yadav, Vidarbha captain Faiz Fazal, VCA’s former Vice President Advait Manohar, Physically Challenged Cricket Association Secretary Ravi Chavan, former Ranji player Hemant Wasu, Ranji player Amit Paunikar (Arjun awardee), Vijayji Munishwar, coach of Indian Divyang cricket team Jitender Singh, Karnataka team captain Vijaykant Tiwari and a host of other prominent personalities.

Gurudas Raut, an all-rounder with the India team for the disabled, has faced what most differently-abled persons have as a child. Raut was born without a left arm, but now an Air Force employee, he feels it has actually helped as it forced him to manage everything using his right hand.

He says, “My interest in cricket started with watching the game on television. But being disabled, I knew these were distant dreams. I used to hear comments like ‘You’re handicapped. Stay safe or else you’ll lose your other hand as well.’ It took me some time, but I realised they won’t ever stop and it’s better if I don’t pay heed to their remarks.”
