
Commandos of ‘Quick Response Team’ (QRT) have been posted at various sensitive places including at the main programme to be held at the divisional commissionerate office. The city police have been asked to be in preparedness for any eventuality.
The intelligence agencies have sounded a high alert in the city in the aftermath of Yakub Memon’s hanging. At the divisional commissioner’s office, apart from QRT, armed guards have also been pressed in to service. One team of QRT will be stationed at the police control room.
Police personnels have been posted at prominent places including Sitabuldi Fort, malls, multiplexes and places of public importance. Cops have taken positions since Friday evening itself.
A ‘Nakabandi’ has been enforced on the borders of city limits. Vehicles are being checked. Security has also been beefed up at airport, railway station and bus stands. Hotels, lodges of the city are being watched and inquiries made.
The traffic police will run a special drive to check rash driving during Independence Day celebrations. Over 100 vehicle riders that were booked last year for creating ruckus on road, have been served with notices and asked to refrain from any misadventure. Strict action will be taken against those miscreants trying to disrupt peaceful celebrations.
