
Nagpur: Acting on a tip-off, the Ajni police arrested two men and seized an illegal firearm and live ammunition during a raid conducted on Saturday evening.
According to police, between 5.10 pm and 5.50 pm on January 4, 2026, the Ajni police crime detection team carried out a search at the residence of Sagar Brijmohan Pal (33), a resident of Plot No. 17, Parvati Nagar, near Phoolmati Mata Temple, Ajni. During the search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses, police recovered a Mauser firearm and two live cartridges concealed under the mattress of a wooden bed in the bedroom. The seized weapon and ammunition are valued at approximately Rs 82,000.
During interrogation, Sagar Pal told police that the firearm and cartridges belonged to his friend Pramod Rajendra Suryavanshi (31), a resident of Plot No. 3, Dattadham Nagar, Manewada Road, and that he had kept them at his house at Suryavanshi’s request.
Police stated that both accused were found in possession of the firearm and live cartridges with the intention of committing a cognisable offence and in violation of prohibitory orders. Accordingly, a case has been registered against both under Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, at Ajni Police Station. Both accused have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rashmita Rao (Zone 4) and Assistant Commissioner of Police Narendra Hivre (Ajni Division). The action was executed by Senior Police Inspector Nitinchandra Rajkumar, PSI Siddhant Maske, Head Constable Manoj, Constable Atul Tikle, Constable Rahul, and Woman Constable Ruksar.
