IGNOU conducts Gyan Ganga Awareness meet in Gadchiroli

Nagpur: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Nagpur Regional Centre conducted ‘Gyan Ganga Awareness Meetings’ for underprivileged people at various interior locations in Gadchiroli District.

A meeting was held at Salhe village which falls under Korchi taluka, where people of all age groups attended the meeting where Dr. P Sivaswaroop regional director of IGNOU along with Dr Shyam Koreti Assistant professor of History in RTMNU and assistant coordinator of IGNOU study center explained the advantages of IGNOU for rural people.

Sivaswaroop said that one can continue their studies from home and improve their knowledge and qualification by through various programs run by the IGNOU. He also cited an example of a woman prisoner whose objective for studying in IGNOU was to teach out to her grandchildren. Through better education even a mother can guide her children effectively, he added.

He stressed that pursuing higher education is difficult for those living in tribal areas students is difficult in this area. But, in IGNOU students can pursue various courses, informed Koreti. He also informed that IGNOU provides various courses “free of cost” to SC/ST Students and advised the girls to make good use of this opportunity.

98 students from Kurkheda and interior villages of Korchi, Sursundi have registered for the session at the Special Study Centre at Kurkheda. Sivaswaroop explained students how one can study through distance learning mode. He also briefed about the in-built in the study material for self study. Dr. Koreti explained about the assignments, examinations in IGNOU.
