Nagpur: Nagpur Municipal Corporation which is already facing a financial crisis is least bothered about its property which is being looted with the help officials and employees. ‘Nagpur Today’ has been regularly ringing the warning bells for the NMC to wake up but the Municipal Administration’s bigwigs are sitting tight in the AC cabin instead of going to places directly and seeing for themselves.

Opposition leader Tanaji Wanve got the information that the Teak trees worth lakhs of rupees were felled. He immediately went to the spot to inspect. It may be mentioned that from many years this place has been known for the toll booth. The place owned by NMC has a office in the building here alongwith a godown. In front on the half part there is a place for parking, there is also a road and behind the building one and half acres of land teak was planted 50 years back. There are more than 100 teak plants, for its irrigation there is a well and a tank to collect the water.

When Tanaji Wanve reached the place near Wadi octroi area he was taken to the spot. He inspected the entire area and found that hundreds of teak trees were cut within an year. This land comes under the NMC’s Transport Department. The person who had informed Tanaji Wanve said that the information regarding felling of trees was also given to the Transport Manager but he did not take it seriously. According to the traders concerned with this said that the cost of these felled trees is lakhs of rupees.

Some months back transporters of Wadi were parking their vehicles in the octroi area in return the big official of transport Department was taking illegal rent from them it is alleged. When this was exposed the official would lose his cool on seeing ‘Nagpur Today’ reporter. If the NMC officials and executive committee members understand there duty and take things seriously and inquire into matter from time to time NMC will be saved of heavy loss.

It will be all the more save if the NMC with the help of District Collector’s office does the audit of the property and builds a security wall to keep a watch, this would certainly help the NMC to come out of the crisis and will be totally become financially independent.

Tanaji Wanve condemned the things going on and said it was a serious matter. He said, this would be brought to the notice of Municipal Commissioner and those guilty will be punished. Transport Committee Chairman Bunty Kukade has got the information and so he too visited the spot.

The localites have informed that private buses are illegally parked here. There is also a Sulabh toilet here and over this also they have been earning daily Rs 200 to 500. Just behind the building the Octroi area has bcome a gambling den. The opposition leader has seen everything and now it remains to be seen what he does to save the property.
