Mandi/Shimla:
A day after as many as 46 people were killed and several injured following a massive landslide that buried two government-run buses and other vehicles in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, the rescue operation continues.

“46 bodies have been recovered and of these 23 have been identified,” an official said. “Although we are expecting an increase in the number of death polls as the rescuers continue to locate dead bodies. Also, other than buses, few other vehicles have also been hit by the massive landslide”, he added.

Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the army and the police were sent and heavy earth-moving machinery called in at the gorge where the two buses lay buried under a heap of debris.

Intermittent rain has been hampering the rescue work and army personnel had to stop late on Sunday with more rain threatening to cause another landslide, police superintendent Ashok Sharma said. The same, also being reason for the landslide.
