Dhantoli police have booked an elderly man on the charges of selling highly toxic, chemically laced liquor made from mahua flowers. Consumption of the brew could have wreaked havoc and taken heavy toll.

Dhantoli Assistant Police Inspector (API) Kamalakar Narasinha (37) received a tip-off that a stock of spurious mahua flower liquor was kept at a house in Chuna Bhatti area near FCI Godown, opposite Durga Mandir. Acting on the information, the API and his team raided the place and found a blue coloured plastic drum containing 10 liters of highly toxic, chemically laced mahua flower liquor and 8 carry bags with 2 liters of the deadly stuff. The raiding cops also found unspecified hazardous chemicals and other toxic material to be mixed in the liquor. The accused Ramaji Mahadeo Budhbavre (59) had stocked the spurious brew for sale. The consumption of the arsenic stuff could have wreaked havoc in the form of heavy toll of fatalities. The deadly stuff was seized and sent to labs for analysis.

Dhantoli police have registered a case under Sections 328 of the IPC read with Sub-Section 65(E) of Mumbai Prohibition Act. However, it could not be verified whether the accused was arrested or not.
