High voltage drama witnessed while body of missing man was being exhumed at Mokshadham

Mess created by Sadar Police Station’s negligent attitude

The attempt by the relatives to identify the deceasedNagpur: In what could be mentioned as the lackadaisical attitude of the Police officials, the cops attached with the Sadar Police Station had denied or refused to even file a case of Missing Person which in turn caused the cops of Ambazhari Police Station to bury a dead body claiming it to be Lawaris or Unclaimed.

According to police officials, the deceased identified as Ashok Govindrao Zod aged 46 years and a resident of Ramgiri Slum area in Civil Lines was missing since January 3, 2016. The sons and relatives searched for him for the next two days but to no avail.

However, on January 5, 2016, wife of the deceased, Ratna Ashok Zod and his sons went to Sadar Police Station to register a case of Missing Person. However, the cops at the Police Station were allegedly busy in watching television and refused to register the FIR or report of Missing Person. Had they done so, they would have a photograph of the deceased. In a very negligent and irresponsible manner, the cops of the Sadar Police Station are alleged to have advised the kith and kin of missing Ashok Zod to keep searching for him.

The relatives mourning the death of their dear relativeMeanwhile, on January 3, 2016, the deceased Ashok Govindrao Zod who works as a Waiter in The Great Maratha Bar and Restaurant in Hingna Road was found in an unconscious state near Futala Lake. The Police officials of Ambazhari Police Station first took the person to the Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. After performing the panchanama and other formalities, the Ambazhari Police officials informed all the 23 Police Stations and the Control Room as is required by them. The Post Mortem Report informed that he died because of an old Lung Disease that he was suffering from.

When the Ambazhari Police Station did not receive any claims of Missing Complaints from any police station, they took the dead body of Ashok Zod and interred it at Mokshadham Crematorium.

The Aadhar Card of the deceased and his wifeOne of the neighbours of the deceased, a young boy had gone to pay the fine in Ambazhari Police Station since his vehicle was seized by them. There, after paying the fine, when the neighbour boy was exiting the police station he noticed the cycle of the deceased neighbor Ashok Zod.

He immediately informed the kith and kin of the deceased, who rushed to Ambazhari Police Station. On enquiries, they found that the Ambazhari Police did find the body of the deceased and after performing their duties had interred the body terming as Lawaris (unclaimed) at Mokshadham Crematorium.

On January 9, 2016, the kith and kin of the deceased accompanied by MLC and Corporator Prakash Gajbhiye and the cops of Ambazhari Police Station exhumed the body of the deceased to give a proper funeral. However, high voltage drama was witnessed as the male members of the relatives of the deceased who were highly drunk were causing scene before and during the exhumation. After exhumation, the women folk started wailing and crying. Finally after Prakash Gajbhiye intervened, the body was honoured with a decent funeral.
