Nagpur: In an incident that sent shock waves across city police department, a Police Constable committed suicide in the premises of Sadar police station on Monday morning by shooting himself with his SLR Carbine. The news spread like a jungle fire in the locality.The actual reasons behind his suicide was yet to ascertained however he was said to be depressed over routine tiff with his wife.
The deceased, identified as Sonu Parkhe, aged 27. Sonu was deployed on guard duty in Sadar police station. Sources have it that Sonu reached Sadar police station on his usual time on Monday. He apparently looked depressed. On being asked the reason, he diverted the topic and ignored the questions. He entered his name in the attendance register and he left for guard duty room. However, he took out the SLR Carbine rifle and kept it aimed just below his chin. He shot himself and the bullet directly went through his head killing him on the spot. The sound of bullet firing in police station premises alerted every policeman and they rushed in to check the situation. They witnessed Sonu lying in a pool of blood and before anyone could act to help him, Sonu had already breathed his last.
Station in-charge G K Rathod was informed about the incident and he immediately reached the station. Other senior officers were also informed about the incident. Cops performed panchanama and later sent Sonu’s body for post-mortem to Government Medical College and Hospital.
According to information, Sonu was married just a few months ago. But soon after his marriage, he faced problems with his wife. The problems turned severe and Sonu was apparently stressed due to the continuous fights he had with his wife. Finally, he gave in to the stress and decided to end his life. On Monday, he reached the police station as usual at around 10 am but with an aim to commit suicide. And shot himself dead with the SLW Carbine rifle.
It is to be noted that there were three guards deployed in the police station and each guard is assigned a duty of almost 12 hours. On Monday, he was the only guard on duty in the police station. Cops have registered a case of accidental and started their investigations.
