Grenade blast near Guwahati Central mall, 2 critically hurt

Guwahati: A blast was reported from near the Guwahati Central shopping mall on the busy RG Baruah Road in Guwahati on Wednesday. The incident took place at a crowded location near the state zoo around 8 pm.

As per reports, six persons, including a child, have been injured in the blast; two of them are said to be critical. The injured have been shifted to the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati.

Meanwhile, banned rebel group ULFA(I) has claimed responsibility for the attack, said reports.

Later, Guwahati police commissioner Deepak Kumar has confirmed that it was a grenade blast and police personnel were targeted. The blast took place during the regular police checking, Kumar added.

Two SSB jawans have been injured in the incident and they are receiving treatment at the GMCH, Kumar confirmed.
