Govt machinery ready for polls

The district administration is all ready to conduct the elections to be held tomorrow. Nagpur district has two Lok Sabha constituencies that of Nagpur and Ramtek where voting will be held on Thursday under the first phase`.

The staff on election duty reported to the collectorate on Wednesday. They were allotted all the election material including the electronic voting machines, ink, stationary items and VVPATs.

In Maharashtra, this would be the first time when VVPATs would be used. A visit to St. Ursula School in Civil Lines revealed that the officers on election duty were busy collecting their material and checking it twice before proceeding for their respective polling booths.

The election staffers were given necessary instructions by their senior officials about the procedures to be followed.

All the staffers have already undergone at least one round of training before being posted for the duty, sources said. Over 22 lakh voters will exercise their franchise in Nagpur constituency. A heavy police bandobast has also been made at each polling booth.

This time the timings of voting have also been extended by one hour with the voting to start at 7 am and end at 6 pm.
