The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has extended the cut-off date for entry into India for applying under CAA till 31st December 2024.
Earlier, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, sought to grant Indian citizenship to refugees who had sought shelter in India before December 31, 2014.
The CAA offered citizenship for six persecuted communities — Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians — in three neighbouring countries — Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
