Nagpur: Some officials blatantly abuse their official powers for self gain. In a similar case a Naib Tehsildar demanded a bribe from a truck driver for no legal action initiated against him. However, the Anti Corruption Bureau laid a trap and arrested him and his conduit red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 7000/-.
According to information, the complainant used to transport hay for making bricks to different kilns in Kamptee area. He approached the Naib Tehsildar, in the Tehsil Office, Kamptee, District Nagpur and requested him that he does something by which no penal action is initiated against him for over-loading or other such offenses under Motor Vehicles Act.
The Naib Tehsildar identified as Pradeep Gopinath Varpe aged 28 years had demanded a bribe of Rs ten thousand. However, this amount was way above his means so he lodged a complaint with the Anti Corruption Bureau regarding the Naib Tehsildar’s demand.
Accordingly the officials of the Anti Corruption Bureau laid a trap. As soon as the complainant handed over the bribe amount to the conduit of the Naib Tehsildar, identified as Vikas Badiram Shebe aged 30 years and working as a tout (Arjanavis) in the Tehsil Office, Kamptee the officials of the ACB caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 7000/-.
On questioning, the conduit revealed that he was accepting the bribe on behalf of Naib Tehsildar Pradeep Varpe.
The officials of Anti Corruption Bureau have registered a case under section Anti Corruption Act 1988.
The entire operation was conducted under the guidance of DCP Prakash Jadhav, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Purundare by Police Inspector Asaram Shete, Head Constable Vilas Khanke, Naib Police Constable Nilesh Barve and Constable Chandrakant Taksande.
