Gondia: Residents of Gondia town and district have written an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding starting of Gondia Airport soon.

In the open letter to Modi, the residents pointed out that the Birsi Airport, 20 km away from Gondia, is ready with all latest facilities. A Pilot Training Centre is also situated at the Airport. The Birsi Airport has night landing facilities too. “Gondia is an important city being an industrial hub.

Being a border city between Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh, Gondia is developing fast. By operationalizing Birsi Airport, apart from residents of Gondia, residents of neighbouring Balaghat district in MP, too, will have a vital facility,” the open letter said.

“Hundreds of children of Gondia study in big cities of the country and the traders and businessmen have to travel to big cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune etc for their work. Gondia’s Birsi Airport will prove immensely helpful for easy and fast travelling to these cities.

Hence it is absolutely necessary to operationalise the airport as soon as possible. Currently, Gondia’s Birsi Airport is serving only the bigwig political leaders and ministers. Constructed at the cost of Rs 650 crore, the airport should also serve common people,” the open letter pleaded.

“Mr Prime Minister, we the residents of Gondia are confident that you will fulfil our genuine demand immediately and win our hearts,” they said in the open letter to Modi.
