Airfares skyrocket due to Winter Session in Nagpur, Christmas holidays, New Year celebrations

Nagpur: In view of good response from the air travellers, GoFirst is all set to start a new flight on the Nagpur-Pune route from December 16. Ticket bookings for the flight have already begun, said a report in local media.

According to the report, the GoFirst Flight No. G8-282 will depart from Nagpur at 5.30 am and will land at Pune at 6.50 am. Similarly, Flight No. G8-281 will depart from Pune at 10.50 pm and reach Nagpur 12.10 pm. It will operate on all the seven days of a week. At present, GoFirst has one flight on the Nagpur to Pune route which is Flight No. G8-284. Now, there would be two flights on the Nagpur-Pune route.

The major airlines with operations at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, are Air India, Indigo and GoFirst. The airfares tend to change the fares as per the demand and supply, timings and the airline people choose. Further, it is generally seen that during the weekends the airfare prices rise, sources mentioned.

Airfares soar due to Winter Session in Nagpur:

The forthcoming Winter Session of Maharashtra State Legislature scheduled to start from December 19, seems to be creating huge demand for flights to Nagpur. During the Winter Session high ranking politicians, bureaucrats, administrators and high profile people come in large numbers to the city.

This year, the Winter Session coincides with the winter holiday season on account of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. With this influx of people, the demand for tickets rises resulting in higher fares.

According to the report, the air fares have increased by 20 percent to 30 percent, on the Nagpur-Mumbai and Nagpur-Delhi routes. At present the worst affected people by high airfares are the travellers coming from major cities like Mumbai and New Delhi to Nagpur as air fares have significantly increased.

The media report further said that on the Nagpur to Mumbai route air fares are being quoted as high as Rs 10,000 to Rs 11,000 per ticket on December 15. The average fare on the Nagpur-Mumbai route is Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 per ticket. Similarly, on the Nagpur-New Delhi route the airfares are at Rs 10,000 per ticket to Rs 12,000 per ticket. The average airfare on this route is Rs 7,000 per ticket to Rs 8,000 per ticket, the report added.
