Nagpur: Reacting to the Nagpur Today report titled ‘Bizarre twist: MLA Hostel rape victim attempts suicide,’ Gittikhadan police have come out with a clarification. Cops have termed the incident as rumours. “Health of the victimised girl is down slightly and therefore she went to a hospital for treatment. After the treatment, the girl returned to her home and now is in good health,” the cops clarified.

The cops further said rumours are taking rounds that the victimised girl attempted suicide. Nothing of sort has happened. It is just a rumour, said the investigation officer Woman PSI Shalini Kinake.

It may be mentioned that the Member of State Women’s Commission Neeta Thakre had claimed that the girl tried to commit suicide on Friday night. She had further said that the victimised girl is under immense mental stress and depression. Adding to her agony, the girl’s family is being threatened, coerced and pressured by people known to the accused for withdrawing of case, Thakre said.

Based on the revelation of Neeta Thakre and other sources, Nagpur Today published the report. But since the cops have now came out with the facts and termed the incident as rumours, we apologise for the wrong report.
