German Funding and Technical groups keen to support Nagpur Metro

As a first stepping stone to gather technical consulting and arrange funds for various projects in Nagpur Metro, a delegation comprising of Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director, NMRCL and Rajiv Yelkawar, Asstt. Er. visited Germany from 4th to 7th May, 2015.

Nagpur Metro delegation met some of the pioneer organisations in the field of Railway Project consulting and discussed the technical and commercial aspects of Nagpur Metro project especially Solar Project.

1. 4th May, 2015: Frankfurt

I) Visit to GIZ
The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH or GIZ in short, is a company owned by the German Federal Government and operates in more than 130 countries that specialises in international development. GIZ showed interest in giving the know-how of Solar Project to Nagpur Metro.

ii) Visit to KfW
The KfW, formerly KfW Bankengruppe, is a German government-owned development bank, based in Frankfurt. Particularly in difficult economic times, energy efficiency can make an important contribution to reducing the fixed costs of an enterprise. In order for small and medium-sized enterprises to be able to sustain such investments too, KM gives particular support to SMEs in the form of low interest rates for loans. In addition, KM is financing the development of renewable energies, such as electricity and heat from the ground, sun, wind and water. They are already in coordination with Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd. OREDA) and Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for funding Solar Project in India. Mr Dixit had a meeting with the funding team of KfW to find out the possibilities of obtaining know-how as well as funding for the huge Nagpur Metro Solar Project. At the outset, KfW has shown interest in taking up Nagpur Metro.

The Bank was quite open to fund other projects of general works and procurement. NMRCL also found out the possibility of funding for Rolling Stock and Signalling equipment which KfW’s Apex Bank was willing to fund.

2. 5th May, 2015: Frankfurt

i) Visit to PwC
PwC is one of Germany’s leading auditing and consultancy organisations and a member of the worldwide PwC network. The experts at PwC assist companies with the choice of suitable lenders and evaluate their optional choices of action for investment projects. The consultants at PwC are independent of any banks and advise companies such as public authorities on drawing up financing concepts. This advice also includes the structuring of public promotion programs as well as fund application and effect controls. PwC officials on visit by Nagpur Metro delegation showed immense interest in the Rail Project.

3. 6th May, 2015: Berlin

i) DB Head Quarter Office
Brijesh Dixit & his team met Deutsche BARN – DB International group which offers consultancy on transport solutions worldwide, is an expert organisation in the field of Railway Projects implementation. Nagpur Metro gave a presentation on its project before the officials of DB Group.

Interestingly, DB International group showed interest in offering Technical consultation to Nagpur Metro Project. Their Regional Manager- Projects is planning to visit Nagpur in near future.

ii) Visit to Metro Car Depot
The delegation visited Metro Depot to get a feel of how Metro workshop is managed at Berlin.

iii) Site Visit to Berlin Station
A visit to the Berlin Station was more than educative in knowing on-site Metro related technical aspects.

4. 7th May, 2015: Berlin

i)  Site visit to Innovation Centre
A dedicated facility of German Public and Private Sector to promote innovations in cutting edge technological field

ii) Solar Park by lb vogt
As a reliable EPC partner that is internationally active, ib vogt GmbH develops, plans and realises solar power plants throughout the world. A visit of Nagpur Metro delegation to the Solar Park was facilitated by the German Government, which has supported erection of this 155 MV Solar Park located near the airport in Berlin. Govt. Of Germany is willing to help out in similar activity at Nagpur. NMRCL shall study the Technical model of Solar Park and take a step forward accordingly.

Nagpur Metro is gathering consultants Technical and otherwise to commence on its first phase of operation near Khapri. The Project according to Brijesh Dixit is moving on schedule.
