GATE 2016: New changes introduced

GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2016 will be conducted by IISc (Indian Institute of Science), Bangalore to provide admission to students in Master of Engineering degree programmes. The examination is scheduled to be held from January 30 till February 7, next year.

The examination will be jointly administered by the IISc and seven IIT’s namely Mumbai, Delhi, Kanpur, Roorkee, Madras, Kharagpur, Guwahati.

The online registrations for GATE will commence from September 1 and will conclude on October 1. Bio-metric information (photograph and fingerprints) for randomly selected candidates may be obtained before the start of the examination.

Changes introduced:

The syllabi for GATE 2016 papers have been revised and differs from that of GATE 2015.

Earlier there were total 22 papers, but now after the introduction of a new stream namely, Petroleum Engineering (PE) the total number of papers is 23.

From now onward, an online virtual calculator will be provided to all the aspirants during the examination, whereas earlier students used to get their own calculators. Now no physical calculator will be allowed and the online virtual calculator will be put on the official GATE website for practice before the examination.

Also, after the completion of GATE 2016 examination, answer key will be made available for dispute within a short time. A nominal fee will be charged for the same.

Eligibility criteria

The candidates who are currently in the final year or have completed B.E/ B,Tech/ B.Pharmacy/ M.Sc/ M.A/MCA from any recognised university are eligible to apply for the examination.

Important dates

The application forms will be available from September 1 to October 1 .

The last date for changing the exam centre is by November 20
