Nagpur: Says after arresting two prison constables for supplying Ganja (Marijuana) to prisoners in Nagpur Central Jail, the Dhantoli Police arrested one more constable on suspicion of being the kingpin of the racket.

The accused Jail Constable was identified as Parmeshwar Khonde. The police investigation revealed that Khonde had purchased the Sim card and mobile phone that was used to arrange ganja for the jail inmates. The police zeroed in on Khonde on the basis of the location of the mobile phone. Khonde had asked his friends to recharge the mobile phone, the reports said. However, the mobile phone has not yet been traced by the police.

Khonde reportedly told the police that he threw the phone in a nullah after the arrest of the two jail constables. The police produced him in the court and obtained his Police Custody Remand (PCR) till December 7.

It may be mentioned here that, five persons, including two prison constables, were arrested by the Police for supplying Ganja to the inmates of Central Jail, on Wednesday, November 30. The prison staffers were found charging Rs 5,000 for delivery of Ganja to the inmates and using WhatsApp messenger to convey demands of the inmates to their accomplices living in the city, reports said.

On November 30, the police arrested ShrikantThorat, Gopal Parate, Rahul Mendhekar and prison constables Ajinkya Rathod and Prashant Rathod. Gopal and Rahul were history-sheeters. They were in the jail for around six months and developed friendship with notorious goons Nished Wasnik and Vaibhav Tandekar, who are behind bars. Nished and Vaibhav were sentenced on the charges of murder and crypto currency fraud.

Later, Shrikant, Gopal and Rahul walked out of the jail on bail. While cooling their heels behind the bars, Nished and Ajinkya came in contact with the jail constables who used to supply them Ganja and other material. The constables charged Rs 5,000 for delivery of Ganja, Rs 3,000 for delivering food items and Rs 1,000 for clothes. They were using a unique modus operandi in which a Sim card generated with bogus documents was used to maintain secrecy.

After receiving requests from Nished and Ajinkya, the constables used to write it on a paper and send the pictures to Shrikant, Gopal and Rahul on WhatsApp. A fruit seller outside the Central Jail was receiving the packet from the three and forwarding it to the jail constables. They were secretly delivering the packets to Nished and Ajinkya in the jail, police officials said.
