Gangwar to grace Inauguration Ceremony of Induction Training of 70th batch of IRS

The Inauguration Ceremony of the Induction Training of the 70th batch of IRS (Indian Revenue Service) at NADT, Nagpur (National Academy of Direct Taxes, Nagpur) will be held on 6th January, 2016 (Friday) at 9 AM. Union Finance Minister of State Santosh Kumar Gangwar will be the chief guest on the occasion. While, Smt. Nishi Singh, I.R.S., Member, Central Board of Direct Taxes, New Delhi, will be the Guest of Honour .

The direct recruit IRS officers undergo Induction training of about 16 months before getting posted to field to manage the tax administration of India. The I.R.S Officers are recruited through the Civil Services Examination (CSE) organized by the Union Public Service Commission. In their 16 months long training, the Officer Trainees are trained on various aspects of Tax administration.

The training includes specialized inputs in Income Tax laws, jurisprudence and training in allied laws, including General Laws and business laws. As an IRS Trainee, intensive training on accounts and accounting systems practised in India is provided. Inputs in Financial Forensics and Cyber Forensics prepare the trainee for Investigation in tax matters and financial crimes. Efforts are made to sensitize the Trainees towards Public Service and Right to information.

The training also includes attachments with various statutory bodies in India including Parliament attachment, RBI attachment, SEBI, NSDL, etc. There is also a component of International attachment. The training equips the Officer Trainees to understand the necessity of Revenue augmentation and to curb instances of tax evasion and Money laundering. On successful completion of the Induction Training, the Officer Trainees are posted as Assistant Commissioners of Income Tax in field offices across India.
