Nagpur: In Maharashtra, every year thousands of students explore job opportunities after clearing NET (National Eligibility Test), SET (State Eligibility Test) and PhDs. For the posts of Assistant Professors, all these three criteria is must. However, since the State Government banned all new recruitments in 2014, thousands of youths have been rendered jobless. Around 11,500 posts are lying vacant in the State.

The students hit the streets umpteen times in the past demanding filling up of these posts but the government has so far not taken any decision in this regard. The students met the Education Minister Vinod Tawde and discussed the issue with him. But no initiative has been taken so far.

City’s teacher MLC Nago Ganar expressed his displeasure over non-recruitment of Assistant Professors. Launching scathing attack on the Education Minister Tawde, Ganar said the State Government has never been serious on appointments of Assistant Professors.

Known for taking stance against his own government, the BJP MLC charged Tawde of delivering speeches only but doing nothing. Ganar who always raised issues of students and teachers said the state government is playing with the future of hundreds of NET, SET, PhD students by not providing them employment. “I had even met Tawde personally and discussed the issue but no decision has been taken as yet,” Ganar lamented.
