Nagpur: To promote use of public toilets, Union Minister for Road Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari has launched ‘Shauchalaya Apnao Swachh Bharat Banao’ scheme under which public toilets and urinals would be cleaned and made smell-free in the city.

Public toilets and urinals are never clean and therefore citizens avoid using them due to odor. Therefore, organic powder would be used for cleaning and it would be the first such novel method in the country. This scheme was started two weeks ago and has started giving results.

The Union Minister wants to implement this scheme in the State and country soon. There are close to 100 public toilets and urinals in all part of the city but due to bad odor many urinals are not used and denizens use the space around the urinal. This makes the area dirty and creates danger to health.

As a remedy and to give hand to PM Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission, all public toilets and urinals would be adopted. The toilets would be cleaned regularly and organic powder would be used as deodorant. Since the last two weeks, 27 toilets and urinals have become odorless.

This would help the Smart City Project, stoppage of pollution of water bodies, toilets and urinals are cleaned with chemicals, which contaminate streams and rivers.

This contaminated water reaches lakes and other water sources and also seeps in the ground. This affects the health of citizens and water based life. Now with the Union Minister’s initiative, organic deodorant would be used and water pollution would stop.
