Freak mishap: Man dies after oxygen cylinder falls on his head in ambulance

Nagpur: In a freak incident, a man, who was being taken in an ambulance to Mayo Hospital, died as an oxygen cylinder in the ambulance fell on his head inuring him critically.

It all happened when a resident of Dhammadeep Nagar, IBM Road, Zenda Square, Ajay Chandrabhan Wankhede (50) was admitted in Mure Memorial Hospital on April 11 for blisters in his mouth. After treating Ajay Wankhede for two days i.e. till April 13, Mure doctors referred him to Mayo Hospital for further treatment.

Subsequently, Ajay Wankhede was being taken to Mayo Hospital in an ambulance around 9.30 am. Midway near Samvidhan Square (RBI Square) an unidentified auto came in front of the ambulance suddenly. As a result the driver applied brakes and stopped the ambulance with a jerk. Due to the jolt, an oxygen cylinder in the ambulance fell on the head of Ajay Wankhede injuring him seriously. Ajay succumbed to the head injury while undergoing treatment in Mayo Hospital around 4.15 pm on Monday, April 15.

Sitabuldi PSI Chaudhary, based on information, registered a case of accidental death and launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
