Nagpur: In a major crackdown on alleged immoral trafficking, the Social Security Department of the Nagpur Crime Branch raided a suspected prostitution racket operating from the Ganga-Jamuna locality under the Lakadganj police station limits on Thursday, rescuing a young woman and booking a 65-year-old woman for allegedly running the illegal operation.

According to police, the Social Security Department received specific information that a woman was allegedly luring young women into prostitution by promising them quick and easy money. Acting on the intelligence, officials conducted a planned raid at a house in Delhi Galli of Ganga-Jamuna with the assistance of two independent witnesses and a decoy customer.

During the operation, police rescued the alleged victim from the premises and shifted her to safety. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused woman was allegedly arranging customers and compelling the victim to engage in prostitution for financial gain.

Based on the findings, the Lakadganj Police initiated legal proceedings by registering Crime No. 395/2026 under Sections 143(2) and 143(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 3, 4, 5 and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.

The accused has been identified as Munnibai Suresh Kalkhor (65), a resident of Ganga-Jamuna locality on Vyankoba Mandir Road in Nagpur. Police said legal action has been initiated against her, while further investigation is underway to ascertain whether other persons were involved in the alleged prostitution network.

The raid was carried out under the supervision of Social Security Department Police Inspector Darshan Patil as part of the Crime Branch’s ongoing drive against human trafficking and immoral trafficking.

Police said efforts to identify other members of the alleged network are continuing and reiterated that stringent action would be taken against those found involved in organised prostitution and human trafficking activities.
