Nagpur: The rising population of stray dogs in Nagpur has emerged as a potential threat to the safety of city commuters, particularly the walkers. Its high time Nagpur Municipal Corporation has come to terms with the emerging stray dog menace. In order to monitor the bulging number of stray dogs, NMC has decided to count on the numbers! Yes for the first time NMC will undertake ‘dog census’ in Nagpur.

Taking cue from the success of the similar such mission undertaken in Goa, NMC will record the dog population within city limits. Sources said a tender will be issued on Saturday or Monday in this regard. Any NGO recognized by Animal Welfare Board will be given the work order. There are around 4-5 NGOs in city which are authorized by Animal Welfare Board.

Hi-tech process
In sync with emerging technology, stray dogs will be counted using mobile application through which the dog will be sketched and then its information will be updated. In the first of its kind initiative, NMC will deliberate on the vasectomy of these dogs. This will ease out the NMC’s process and also deal relief to the citizens.

Nagpur Today View
Stray dogs have literally made the lives of many citizens hell in many areas. The people commuting through night hours are specifically under threat. However NMC has earlier caught the dogs and strayed them outside city, but most of them have returned back. With the good use of technology, the process can be effectively carried out. We hope recording the stray dog population will certainly help in containing the menace.
