Nagpur News: Tension gripped Pachpaoli area when few people opened fire in Mohd Rafi Square, near Rani Durgawati Square, Mahendra Nagar, on Tuesday late night and also attacked the victims with sword and other sharp weapons. Three people were injured in the incidence. Police have arrested one accused in this case while others are still at large.
According to information, the incidence happened at 11.30 pm on Tuesday night. The injured have been identified as Abdul Rashid Abdul Rehman Qureshi (38), a resident of Teka Naka basti, Sonu Siddaqi and Mushtaq Afrashi. Police said, Abdul Rashid, Sonu Siddaqi and Mushtaq were discussing some official matter at Mohd Rafi Square on Tuesday night. The accused Faizal Hasan Ansari (27) came to them in his Scoda (MH 12/789) and started arguing on transportation of animals in truck. On the intervention of Sonu, enraged Ansari left from there but he soon returned with his accomplices Rehman Qureshi (30), Wasim alias Wassi (27), and others. His opened fire at Rashid, Sonu and Mushtaq with their mauser guns, but all the three escaped the bullets. Enraged over this failure, the accused took out their swords and other sharp weapons and charged at Rashid, Sonu and Mushtaq.
Sonu informed the police that the accused attacked them and cut Rashid’s finger during the attack. Sonu and Muhstaq, who too, were injured, tried to grab the accused but failed to do so. The accused ran away from there. But, panic gripped the area on witnessing open fire and the chase between accused and victims.
On being informed, Pachpaoli police station team rushed the spot and started the investigation. ‘Injured were sent to hospital for treatment. With the help of Sonu’s statement, police launched a search for the accused. Cops were successful in arresting Rehman qureshi, a resident of Yadav Nagar at around 12 midnight. Cops have also seized the scoda car and other weapons from the accused. Search for the other absconding accused is on.
It is to be noted that heated-up arguments took place between Rashid and Faizal Hasan 20 days ago on the same issue. Police suspect that yesterday’s attack was a fall out of that argument.
If sources are to relied, Wasim alias Wassi had a connection with Immu and Ippa gangs. He has already been charged of murder of Mohd Ashfaq in Mominpura. While the accused Faizal Ansari, Wassi and Rehman are active members of Chama gang.
Police said that people are panic-stricken with the firing incidence in the area but police have controlled the situation. Cops have registered an offence under Sections 307 and 34 read with sub sections 3, 4+25 of the IPC. Further investigations are on.
