Nagpur: The Chief Election Officer of Nagpur has announced a revised programme for the special brief review of photo electoral rolls. Now the final voter list will be published on August 27 instead of August 20. Claims and objections have been invited from the citizens between August 2 and 16, as per the revised programme.
Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari has appealed to the eligible citizens to apply for new voter registration, correction, deletion in the prescribed form and as many voters as possible to register. Claims and objections received will be resolved by August 26.
During the Lok Sabha elections, people witnessed a lot of chaos. Many people could not exercise their franchise as their names were missing from the voter list. The office of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has prepared data according to which an average 20,000 voters in each Assembly segment in Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency missed voting. This defeated the drive to increase voting.
Taking serious cognisance of the same, the Election Commission of India asked every district administration to review the electoral roll periodically to ensure no mistake takes place in the final voter list and nobody should miss from casting his or her vote.
