Field day for chain-snatchers at Mahakumbh, 4 women robbed

Chain-snatchers had a field day as they took full advantage of crowd of devotees thronging the Dharma Sanskruti Mahakumbh, a congregation of saints and sages being held Reshimbagh ground here. The miscreants robbed four women of their gold chains collectively worth Rs 1.22 lakh during event on Sunday.

Vanita Devidas Nandanwar (60), a resident of Plot No. 115, Gajanan Nagar, behind Besa Power House, had come to attend the religious programme. Between 3 pm and 4pm, she went to collect ‘prasad’ behind Kavi Suresh Bhat Auditorium. Grabbing the opportunity of a huge rush, an unidentified robber snatched away a gold mangalsutra worth Rs 45,000 worn by her.

Similarly, ruffians stole ‘mangalsutra’ worth Rs 45,000 from Prerna Prakash Marathe, a resident of Brahmapuri, and a gold chain worth Rs 45,000 from Pranjali Chandrakant Kelapure (61) of Dombivali (East), Mumbai. The miscreants also relieved Venutai Sharadrao Bhandekar (65), a resident of Gandhi Nagar, Arvi Road, Wardha, of her gold chain worth Rs 23,000 during the Mahakumbh.

Kotwali API Padgham registered an offence under Section 379 of the IPC and launched a search to nab the offenders.
