Festival of Dr Jabbar Patel’s films begins

NAGPUR: “Films made by renowned filmmaker Dr Jabbar Patel are very valuable for the society. These films, whether on politics or on society, leave a very lasting impact on the audiences. Dr Patel has made important contribution to cinema and theatre. A festival of films is not less than a treat for Nagpurians,” said Mayor Nanda Jichkar while inaugurating the Dr Jabbar Patel Film Festival in the city on Saturday morning.

The festival has been organised jointly by Orange City Cultural Foundation, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, and Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University at Kavi Kalidas Sabhagruh of Persistent Technologies. Also present at the inauguration were NMC deputy commissioner Ravindra Deotale, Nagpur Zilla Parishad CEO Yadav, filmmaker Dr Jabbar Patel, actor Subhash Alekar, film guru Samar Nakhate and world renowned neurologist Dr Chandrashekhar Meshram.

The festival will run on 8 and 9 September 2018 in the auditorium in premises of Persistent Technologies. Marathi film ‘Sinhasan’ was screened immediately after the inauguration. It was followed by a discussion on the film. Social-oriented film ‘Mukta’ will be screened in the evening.

Sunday will see the screening of ‘Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’ and ‘Jait Re Jait’.

At the outset of the program, Dr Chandrashekhar Meshram spoke about the backdrop of the festival.
