FDA seizes energy drink worth Rs4.47 lakh

Nagpur: The Food and Drug Administration, Nagpur division, recently seized over 8,900 tins and plastic bottles of energy drink ‘Bisleri Urzza’, worth Rs4,50,00 from Viren Food and Beverages, at MIDC, Hingna.

The FDA team found out that 952 tins of 250 ml each, worth Rs47,000, had passed their use-by date and 698 tins of 250ml each, worth Rs34,900, did not have the packaging date and batch number. Also, no record was maintained for 5,002 tins of 250ml, worth Rs2,50,100, and 2,302 plastic bottles of 300 ml each, worth Rs1,15,100.

The team led by assistant commissioner (food) MC Pawar comprised food security officers SS Deshpande, AA Uplap and AS Mahajan. The raid was conducted under the directives of joint commissioner Shivaji Desai. The team also found thinner, which was supposedly used to erase the batch number and packaging date.
