Nagpur: In a major food safety enforcement action, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licence of Indore Namkeen Products, a sweets and snacks manufacturing unit located near Pili Nadi on Kamptee Road in Nagpur, after inspectors found mould-infested sweets, expired food items, and serious hygiene violations during an inspection.
The inspection was carried out by FDA Food Safety Officer A. N. Khandare, who found mould growing on Mawa Barfi and Bengali sweets, while products including Milk Cake, Doda Barfi, and cherries had crossed their expiry dates. Officials also discovered spoiled and leftover food stored in cold storage.
During the inspection, the FDA observed that several food products meant for sale did not carry mandatory details such as the manufacturing date, batch number, expiry date, or food licence number, violating food safety regulations. Inspectors also found that Chamcham sweets were being packed in reused tin containers, raising further concerns over food safety practices.

The manufacturing premises were reported to be in an unhygienic condition, with flies found around exposed food items, posing a potential risk to public health.
Acting under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, the FDA destroyed 273 kg of food products worth approximately ₹61,800 on the spot.
Considering the serious violations and the potential threat to consumer health, the Assistant Commissioner (Food) ordered the immediate suspension of the food licence of Indore Namkeen Products until further orders.
The FDA stated that the action was taken in the interest of public health and warned that strict action would continue against food businesses found violating food safety norms.
