Nagpur: In a major crackdown on banned food products, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Nagpur has seized more than 419 kilograms of prohibited flavoured tobacco during a raid in the city’s Bunkar Colony area. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth nearly ₹6 lakh.
The action was carried out on Monday by an FDA team, which raided the residence of Azhar Iqbal Rahman Qureshi in Bunkar Colony. During the inspection, officials discovered a large stock of banned flavoured tobacco allegedly being stored at the premises.
According to FDA authorities, a total of approximately 419 kilograms of prohibited flavoured tobacco was recovered and confiscated. The accused was allegedly involved in the storage and intended distribution of products banned under food safety regulations.
Following the seizure, an FIR was registered against the accused at Pachpaoli Police Station under relevant provisions related to the storage and sale of prohibited food products.
FDA officials stated that the drive against banned tobacco and other prohibited food items will continue across the region. They warned that strict action will be taken against individuals involved in activities that pose a threat to public health.
The crackdown comes amid intensified enforcement efforts across Maharashtra following the appointment of Tukaram Mundhe as FDA Commissioner. Authorities have launched simultaneous raids against businesses allegedly involved in illegal tobacco trade, creating concern among those engaged in such activities.
