Nagpur: A newly formed committee constituted by Nagpur Municipal Corporation will be hunting all areas of Nagpur city to track down bogus doctors who are practicing medicine without proper degree and Medical Council’s registrations. The directives to this effect have been given by Additional Commissioner to the committee. An FIR will be registered against such persons.
The committee meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Additional Commissioner, Hemant Pawar recently. The details of the work completed by the committee were put forward for review in the meeting. The committee members have so far visited 61 hospitals/dispensaries and found 12 persons practicing without proper medical degree and registration. First Information Reports have been registered against them under Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act 1961 at the concerned police stations.
It is essential for every medical practitioner to get his/her name registered with relevant body like Maharashtra Medical Council, Indian Medical Council, Maharashtra Dental Council etc. Nagpur Municipal Corporation has also appealed to the citizens to inform to the authorities promptly, if any such bogus doctors are found practicing medicine in their area. They can also inform Nagpur Municipal Corporation on its website. Alternatively Cell Nos 9545508211, 9823398301 have been provided so that people can contact NMC on these numbers. The name of the informant will be kept secret, said a press release of Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
The meeting was attended by Health Officer Dr Savita Meshram, committee members Dr Sunil Ghurade, Dr Vinay Joshi, Dr Bahirwar, Dr Shende, Dr Meenakshi Singh, Mukund Khuje and Nitin Deshmukh.
Nagpur Municipal Corporation has also informed that the citizens should verify the name and degree of the medical practitioner before going to him or her for treatment. Similarly, they should also verify council registration which is mandatorily displayed in the clinic.
