Fake cops trick, rob elderly woman of her gold booty worth Rs 1.65 lakh in Dharampeth area

Yet another elderly woman was tricked and robbed by two criminals who posed as “policemen.” The woman was relieved of her gold jewellery worth Rs 1.65 lakh in Dharampeth area of the city on Thursday.

According to police, the victim Chandrabhaga Chintaman Shete (65), a resident of Kachipura, behind Dharampeth Arts and Commerce College, was returning home after completed her work in BSNL office at about 4.30 pm on Thursday.  When Chandrabhaga reached near near Dharampeth College, two unidentified persons approached her posing as ‘policemen’. The goons scared her by telling that chain-snatching and looting incidents are taking place in the area and that she should take off her gold jewellery and keep it in her bag in order to stay safe from waylayers. The bogus policemen then offered their help in keeping the jewellery in her bag safely. However, one of the ‘policemen’ diverted her attention by involving her in talks and the other one pocketed her jewellery worth Rs 1.65 lakh instead of keeping in the bag. When the two ‘cops’ left the spot, Chandrabhaga sensed something amiss and checked her bag for jewellery but was shocked to find the bag empty.

Chandrabhaga immediately rushed to Sitabuldi Police Station and lodged a complaint against the fake policemen. An offence under Sections 419, 420 and 34 of the IPC was registered against the two fake policemen a search is going on for the goons.
