Fake cops fled away with woman’s jewellery in Itwari

In yet another case of misguiding in the guise of cops, an elderly woman was relieved of her jewellery worth Rs 1.30 lakh by two men posing a policemen on Tuesday under Tehsil police station. According to police, Gandhibagh resident Pushpa Manikchand Jain (59) was heading towards Jain Mandir, situated at Bapurao Galli with her husband on Tuesday morning. Two policemen stopped the couple in front of ICICI Bank, near Tipre lane, Itwari who introduced themselves as policemen. The ‘fake’ cops informed Pushpa that a police checking is under way in the area and asked her to remove her jewellery and keep it in her bag. The ‘cops’ offered to help the lady to put the jewellery in the bag. Only after checking her bag in the mandir did she realize that she had been tricked by the ‘fake’ cops.

The couple later reached Tehsil police and lodged a complaint against the ‘fake’ cops who looted her gold jewellery worth Rs 1.60 lakh. Cops have registered an offence under Sections 420, 170 and 37 of the IPC and started their investigations.
