Nagpur: Posing as an India Air Force officer, a man lured a woman into a trap and extorted money after recording obscene videos of her in Nagpur. Ajni police have registered a case under various sections related to extortion and torture.
The accused has been identified as Shyam Supatkar, a resident of Hanuman Nagar, near Medical Square. He reportedly created a fake Facebook profile under the name Shyam Verma. On May 23, 2020, he sent a friend request to a 36-year-old woman and, upon acceptance, misrepresented himself as an Air Force officer stationed in Gujarat but residing in Hanuman Nagar at Nagpur.
Gradually, he manipulated the victim into a false sense of affection and arranged a meeting, said police. Under the guise of meeting, Shyam arrived in a car at Medical Square and claimed the presence of a girl in the vehicle as his sister. As the victim entered the car, she was offered a drink laced with sedatives. The victim became unconscious after having the drink. Subsequently, she was taken to a makeshift dwelling in the Khapri area, where she was raped and subjected to torture. The acts were recorded in videos and photos.
Furthermore, her contacts were tampered with, and she was threatened to make the pictures viral on social media and also with her relatives. In a state of fear, the victim complied with demands and provided a ransom of Rs 4.10 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery.
Upon learning the true identity of the accused, the victim reported the incident to the police. A case under Sections 376, 376 (2)(n), 384, 385, 341, 452, 323, 504, 506(2) of Indian Penal Code has been registered. Further probe is on.
In another case, a 49-year-old woman was enticed into a relationship by 30-year-old Sahil Malhotra from Ludhiana after befriending her on Instagram in November 2020. After forcing her into a physical relationship at her residence, Malhotra had started threatening her for money and valuables. Giving in to the blackmail, the woman had already paid Rs 6-7 lakh but later approached the cops for action.
