Failed to pay loan amount, Couple commit suicide on R-Day in Kondhali area

Nagpur  News : Unable to payback the loan amount taken from bank for farming,a farmer and his wife committed suicide by jumping into well at Pusagondi village in Kondhali police station area. The couple, parents of two sons, aged 11 and 13 and a 15-year-old daughter, chose the Republic Day to end their life.

He deceased are identified as Ashok Rathod, 42 and his wife Baby, 32,residents of Pusagondi Village. Both were farm labours and had left home together for work on Sunday morning. However, while walking back home, they asked other villagers to go ahead as they have to go somewhere else.

Their children had reported missing complaint of their parents on Sunday night while their bodies were found floating in the well at the farm owned by a villager Gopichand Rathod. Police informed that Rathod owned a 3 acre non-productive farm land near his village. On the basis of land, he had taken loan from Bank of India and another loan was taken from Buldhana Urban Bank by pawning his wife’s jewellery.

However, due to the no-productive land, Rathod suffered many losses and was burdened of loan amount. So far, he and his wife worked as farm labourers and were paying loan and earn their livelihood.

Police told that no suicide note was found but the reason was told by Rathod’s relatives. The couple’s suicide was registered as accidental deaths at Kondhali police station.
