Nagpur: Former Vice-President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar arrived in Nagpur on Sunday ahead of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) annual Vijayadashami Utsav, scheduled to be held on October 20. His visit comes at a particularly significant time for the organisation, which is marking the centenary of its establishment this year.
After landing at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Dhankhar proceeded to Raj Bhavan, where he is staying during his visit. Details of his engagements in the city, apart from his scheduled participation in the RSS programme, were not immediately available.
The annual Vijayadashami Utsav holds special importance for the RSS, as Nagpur is the organisation’s headquarters and the traditional venue for its flagship celebrations. This year’s event is expected to attract heightened attention as the Sangh reaches the milestone of 100 years since its foundation.
Centenary celebrations lend special significance
The RSS, founded in Nagpur in 1925, traditionally marks Vijayadashami with a major gathering of swayamsevaks and an address by its chief. The programme provides an occasion for the organisation to outline its views, activities and priorities before its members and the wider public.
The October 20 event assumes added importance as it forms part of the organisation’s centenary-year observances. The celebrations are expected to reflect on the Sangh’s journey over the past century, its organisational expansion and its role in public life.
Nagpur, being the birthplace and headquarters of the RSS, remains central to these annual celebrations. The Vijayadashami programme is among the organisation’s most prominent events, drawing attention from political circles, public figures and observers of national affairs.
Dhankhar’s arrival ahead of the function has added interest to the preparations for this year’s gathering. However, no further details regarding his schedule or other engagements during his stay in Nagpur were available at the time of filing this report.
The RSS’s centenary-year Vijayadashami Utsav is scheduled for October 20, with the organisation’s milestone year lending additional prominence to the annual event.
