In a surprising move, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, acting tough on encroachments near Main Bus Stand in Ganeshpeth area on September 8, 2014, removed them.

More than 50 encroachments and shops set-up illegally were removed by the Anti-Encroachment Department of NMC. The shopkeepers and encroachers did not expect the NMC’s Anti-Encroachment Department to be functioning on Ganesh Visarjan day. So they were taken by surprise and created a lot of ruckus opposing the encroachment removal.

This caused some tension in Ganeshpeth area. The Ganeshpeth Police personnel were summoned to ensure the smooth removal of the encroachments and to control the mob behavior of the vendors.

The In-Charge of Ganeshpeth Police Station Police Inspector Sudhir Nandanwar told Nagpur Today that only those stalls or vendors selling fruits and temporary tea stalls were removed for smooth mobility on that road. These vendors had practically come onto the roads and were a hindrance to the smooth flow of the traffic.

The NMC officials had warned these vendors time and again to remove their stalls and temporary structures, but when they failed to do so, the NMC’s Anti-Encroachment Department removed the encroachments, said one of the officials present at the site to supervise the encroachment removal to Nagpur Today.
