Nagpur: The employees of Manas Agro Industries and Infrastructure Ltd Unit -01, Khursapar (Bela), which was earlier known as Purti Power and Sugar Ltd, wore black badges and staged a silent dharna demonstration soon after unfurling of tricolour on Republic Day in the company premises. The agitation was part of protest against the Gadkari-led company for its anti-worker policies.

The Purti Kamgar Union had pointed out that the company is blatantly violating the provisions of the Payment of Wages Act, Minimum Wages Act, and Factory Act since the past 17 years. Economic exploitation of workers is going on continuously. The regular and daily wage workers are not being paid wages and allowances in accordance with the recommendations of wage boards of sugar factories. Moreover, whatever wages being paid to regular and daily wage workers are not being paid on the fixed date. Wages are pending for three or more months. To protest against the unfair labour practices and exploitation, the workers wore black badges and stages silent dharna demonstration soon after unfurling of tricolour on Republic Day.

The Manas Agro Industries and Infrastructure Ltd Unit -01, Khursapar (Bela) was earlier known as Purti Power and Sugar Ltd, Khursapar (Bela) in Nagpur district. The company is functioning since the year 2000-01. Most of the employees are working in the company since its inception. Exploitation of workers and unfair labour practices are going on since then. The company is not paying wages in accordance with the provisions of Payment of Wages Act, Minimum Wages Act and Factory Act. The wages are not being paid on fixed date. Payment of overtime, according to rules, is double but the company is not paying the same. Forget double payment, the overtime payment is not paid for months together. The UAN numbers of employees in Provident Fund are deliberately changed so as to deprive them of PF dues. The daily wagers are paid peanuts, the Purti Kamgar Union claimed.

The Union further lamented that at a time when the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is ‘overall boss’ of the company then why the workers are being exploited economically. On one hand, Gadkari strives hard for ensuring justice to workers in many companies and on other hand, management in his own company exploits workers economically.
