Elderly woman attacked; robbed of cash, ornaments near Nagpur

Nagpur: New Kamptee Police arrested a robber who looted Rs 25,000 cash and gold ornaments from an elderly woman after attacking her with an electric iron at her bungalow in Cantonment Area recently. Cops nabbed the accused, Arvind Ashish Kumre (25), a native of Khursapar, Tehsil Saoner, within six hours of the sensational robbery.

The victim, Amarender Ajit Bedi (66), a resident of Bungalow No 10, Cantonment Area, Kamptee, was alone in the house. She was sleeping in her bedroom. Around 1.30 am, she woke up as she sensed someone in the backyard. When she went to check and opened the rear door, Arvind Kumre jumped inside the house from the window and attacked her with an electric iron, injuring her seriously. Kumre then removed the gold and silver chains worn by her. He also stole Rs 25,000 from an almirah and a cell phone and decamped with the booty.

After the incident came to light, the victim was rushed to Asha Hospital, Kamptee. After recording the victim’s statement, New Kamptee Police nabbed Kumre and recovered the cash and gold and silver chains from him.
