Elderly man duped of Rs 56 lakh over fake Canada job

Nagpur: Ambazari police have booked a group of three fraudsters allegedly for duping a 72-year-old Tilak Nagar based man on the pretext of appointing him as a technical manager in Canada based project between August 11 and September 30, this year.

In his complaint, Shantaram Udhavrao Sahare, a resident of Flat No. 309, Himalaya Arctic Apartment, Tilak Nagar told Ambazari police that, during his tenure as technical manager in Indonesia back in 2017, he had received a mail offering him about a job at Canada based Crescent Point Energy.

Speaking to Nagpur Today, Ambazari Police Inspector (PI), Vijay Kare said, “The accused identified as Craig Brisca, Chaste Brown and David then reportedly contacted Sahare and identified themselves as firm’s representatives seeking his profile details.

As Sahare expressed his will to join the Crescent Point Energy, the accused trio then sought money on the pretexts of visa, verifications etc and derived hefty amount of Rs 56,67,000. However, when Sahare never received a conformation form the firm, he sensed something amiss and approached police.”

“Ambazari police have booked the accused trio under Sections 419, 420 of the IPC read with Sections 66 of the IT Act and started the probe,” the PI added.
