E-filing has changed the Dynamics of Tax Compliance – CA. J.S. Uberoi

Change is inevitable and those who adopt change willingly achieve success, said CA. Joginder Singh Uberoi, Senior Chartered Accountant, from Nagpur who was speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion of Workshop on E-filing under various Acts organized by Nagpur Branch of ICAI. He further said that e-filing process has been a major revenue initiative in recent past and has changed the dynamics of tax compliance. He further said that knowledge is key factor and knowledge of e-filing process is must for a CA professional to render effective service to their clients. He complimented Nagpur Branch for organizing practical approach oriented programmes for members.

Earlier Chairman of Nagpur Branch of ICAI CA. Ashwini Agrawal said easy access to the internet is prompting more and more Indians to pay tax and file returns online. He said  that implementation of e-filing system has provided greater convenience for taxpayers by allowing them to file their tax & other returns anytime and from anywhere within the stipulated tax filing period as well as helps the revenue agency to be more effective in the operational and processing tasks involving tax filing returns.

He further said that under Income Tax, e-filing with digital signature is mandatory for those with business income of Rs 1 crore or more and professionals with income of Rs 25 lakh or more as well as for individuals and Hindu Undivided Families whose accounts have to be audited under Section 44AB of the Income Tax Act. He said that out of around 4 crore income tax (I-T) returns last financial year, 1.65 crore were filed online. Elaborating he also said similarly e-filing has been made compulsory under TDS, VAT & Service Tax. E-filing of TDS has lot of practical issues and members are concerned with various notices being received by assessee. Under Vat monthly e-filing of J1 & J2, filing of CST returns and now Profession Tax returns has been contentious issues. Under service Tax, registration and returns e-filing and various other services are under e-filing regime now.  He said that Chartered Accountants are important link in tax compliance setting and are in a capacity to exercise strong and direct influence on the tax compliance and administration process.

Amit Surana, Nagpur spoke on the various topics namely e-filing of Returns and Audit Report under IT Act, E-filing of TDS Returns, E-filing under VAT, CST and Profession Tax and E-filing under Service Tax respectively. The technical sessions were interactive & participant’s queries were also replied by the eminent speakers fully.
